# Driver Logbook and Hours-of-Service Notes

FleetLume now includes an operational driver logbook and Hours-of-Service workspace for United States and Canadian operations.

## Important compliance boundary

FleetLume's logbook module is an operational recordkeeping and clock-assistance feature. It is not represented as a registered United States ELD or a third-party-certified Canadian ELD.

A compliant ELD implementation can require vehicle-engine synchronization, automatically recorded driving events, unidentified-driver records, diagnostic and malfunction events, secure output-file transfer, device registration or certification, technical-standard conformance, and other controls that a browser-only workflow cannot independently guarantee.

Use a registered or certified device where required. Carrier safety staff should verify driver eligibility, exemptions, special operations, sleeper-berth calculations, adverse-driving use, off-duty deferrals, oilfield provisions, ferry provisions, and cross-border rule changes before relying on a clock result.

## Retention and audit behavior

FleetLume does not automatically delete HOS records. Approved changes supersede the earlier event instead of overwriting it, and the earlier record remains stored. Database backups and access controls remain the carrier's responsibility.

## Recommended production setup

- Use HTTPS for driver access and location capture.
- Restrict HOS profile and correction approval permissions to authorized safety staff.
- Link every driver account to the correct driver record.
- Set the home terminal time zone and log-day start time before drivers begin logging.
- Select the appropriate U.S. or Canadian cycle for every driver.
- Configure Personal Conveyance, Yard Move, short-haul, and ELD exemption settings according to written carrier policy.
- Retain independent backups for the legally required period.
- For regulated ELD operation, integrate FleetLume with an approved ELD provider rather than treating manual browser entries as automatic ELD records.
